About Star

Star sits at the farthest developed point of Ada County, to the northwest of Boise. It is set further west than both Meridian and Eagle, roughly a half hour drive from the center of Boise, without traffic. Star has grown dramatically since roughly 2010. It’s original downtown is built around a few original businesses including the “Star Merc” – a massive all-purpose grocery and hardware and what-have-you store – as well as a bar, a gas station and a few other services. Much of the recent growth in Star has been focused further southeast than the original downtown, and many new business a new business strip was built in recent years, and serves the many new homes situated closer to Boise. (There’s a gym, financial services, pawn and gun store and a variety of other shops here, including a great Mexican restaurant here that’s a big local favorite.) Star is mostly comprised of newly developed homes, many of them on comfortable lots with good distance from neighbors, and many of the neighborhoods sit tucked up amongst active fields of corn and hay, horses and paddock lands, sheep and lambs on grazing lands. A veteran’s cemetery sits on the outskirts of town. Star feels nicely removed from the bustle of urban life, but has enough housing that you don’t feel too far away from other community. With continued homebuilding expected in coming years, Star may become more densely developed and the fields may turn into housing, but the town will hopefully still sit just outside the busy feel of the Boise/Meridian/Eagle triangle, which has become pretty near fully built out.
